
DeWitt began appearing on stage at the age of 13. She earned a Bachelors of Arts degree from Ball State University. The director encouraged her to apply for UCLA's Department of Theater MFA program. She was awarded the Master of Fine Arts Fellowship in addition to the Clifton Webb Scholarship. While at UCLA she worked as a secretary until her debut on television in an episode of Baretta.Contrary to reports that she was taught by actor Abe Vigoda, Dewitt has stated that they never did meet. DeWitt is best known for her role as Janet Wood during the 1977-1984 run of the sitcom Three's Company, a job she got after being selected for the second pilot episode of the show. Janet was also featured in an episode of The Ropers in which she starred in 1979. DeWitt began her acting career in an episode of 1984 on Three's Company. Acting was her first foray back to the stage in June of 1991 when she was a performer on the Noises Off production at Michigan's Cherry County Playhouse. [1] Later, she appeared in the TV comedy Spring Fling! Pinky and the Brain aired a 1997 episode featuring characters based on her. The voice was performed in part by a different actress. The actress was in the episode Cybill and made a brief appearance on Living Single's final episode. Her television shows from the 2000s included Hope Island and The Nick at Nite Holiday Special as along with Call of the Wild.
